CHAIRS

Andri Ioannou, PhD

Andri Ioannou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) and Director of the Cyprus Interaction Lab (CIL), an interdisciplinary research Lab dealing with topics in the intersection of Educational Technology and Human Computer Interaction. Andri is also a Team Leader in the Research Centre on Interactive media, Smart systems and Emerging technologies.

Andri has a Ph.D. in Educational Technology and an MA in Education both from the University of Connecticut (USA), and a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Cyprus. Her research contributes to key areas of educational technology, including the
(i) design and evaluation of technology-enhanced learning environments,
(ii) use of technology to support skills within a 21st century framework including problem-solving, collaboration, metacognition, and “living in the world” skills,
(iii) design of embodied, playful and gameful learning using technology, and
(iv) technology integration in all levels of education.

Andri has more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications in highly cited international journals and refereed conference proceedings (for example: Educational Technology Research and Development (ETRD), Educational Technology and Society, Computers in Human Behavior, Interacting with Computers, Behaviour & Information Technology etc.).

Andri has participated in the review process of top-ranked journals in her field and she currently serves on the editorial boards of ETRD-Springer, TechTernds-Springer, Contemporary Educational Technology, and ‘Virtual Reality and Human Behaviour’ section of Frontiers in Virtual Reality.

Andri has been involved as a principal investigator (PI), local coordinator, or researcher in more than 20 research projects, funded by the European Union and national grants.

Thomas Cochrane (PhD) is an Academic Advisor and Senior Lecturer in educational Technology at AUT University's Centre for Learning and Teaching (CfLAT). In 2011 he was awarded as an Ascilite Fellow. His research interests include mobile learning, web 2.0, communities of practice, and the scholarship of technology enhanced learning (SOTEL). His PHD thesis was titled: "Mobilizing Learning: Transforming pedagogy with mobile web 2.0". Thomas has managed over 50 mobile learning projects, recently focusing on BYOD devices as catalysts to enable student-generated content and student-generated learning contexts, bridging formal and informal learning environments. He has over 100 peer reviewed publications, with best paper awards at Ascilite 2009, ALT-C 2011, ALT-C 2012, ieeeTALE2018. He has been invited to keynote at several international educational technology conferences including: the 2012 Australian Moodle Moot, the 2012 m-Libraries conference in the UK, the launch of UWS massive iPad project in February 2013, the 2014 IBSA VET Practitioners Conference in Melbourne, an invited speaker at EdMedia2014 (Tampere, Finland), and an Educator In Residence at the Disruptive Media Learning Lab, Coventry University, September 2015. He was an invited keynote at the UWA’s Mlearning Summit in September 2016. In 2017 he was a member of the team winning the AUT Vice Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence, Teaching Innovation Award. In 2017 he established the #SOTELNZ Research Cluster https://SOTEL.nz. In 2018 he was elected to the ASCILITE Executive, and became one of the first accredited Senior CMALT holders.

Thomas is an AJET Associate Editor, ASCILITE Executive member and Mobile Learning SIG coordinator, an editorial board member of BJET, RLT and IJMBL, and a regular reviewer for high impact journals.

Maria Meletiou-Mavrotheris, PhD

Professor of Mathematics Education at the European University Cyprus, and Director of the Research Laboratory in ICT-Enhanced Education.

She has a PhD in Mathematics Education (University of Texas at Austin, 2000), an MSc in Statistics (University of Texas at Austin, 1994), an MSc in Engineering (University of Texas at Austin, 1998), an MA in Open and Distance Learning (UK Open University, 2008), a BA in Mathematics (University of Texas at Austin, 1993), and Teacher’s Diploma in Elementary Education (Pedagogical Academy of Cyprus, 1990).

Her research work focuses on the study of issues related to the teaching and learning of statistics, while at the same time equally contributing to several other areas of mathematics, science, and technology education. She has established a respected research record through numerous publications in scholarly international journals and edited volumes, and has been able to attract considerable funding from national and international sources.

Her research record includes the coordination of multiple EU funded projects.
