US Military’s Futuristic Augmented Reality Battlefield – Augmented Immersive Team Trainer (AITT)
Augmented Immersive Team Trainer (AITT) from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) allows Marines to transform any location into a dynamic training ground by injecting virtual images, indirect fire effects, aircraft, vehicles, simulated people, etc., onto a real-world view of one's surroundings. AITT is an augmented reality training system that integrates with the U.S. Marine Corps’ ground combat team training instrumentation system, Instrumented Tactical Engagement Simulation System (ITESS II) to display virtual indirect fire effects, aircraft, vehicles, and/or role players onto actual terrain. Advanced software algorithms and multiple sensors accurately determine the trainee’s viewpoint. A head-worn display and an enhanced instructor station drives the training content, providing virtual indirect fire, munitions effects, aircraft, and targets inserted into the real world view. Designing for virtual reality and the impact on education | Alex Faaborg | TEDxCincinnati
Alex Faaborg shares how Virtual Reality introduces unique challenges for interface design, and opens up incredible opportunities for the future of art, journalism, and education. Virtual Reality design techniques and Google Cardboard is introduced to over 1000 TEDxCincinnati Main Stage participants. Alex Faaborg is on the Virtual Reality design team at Google. He has led the design of Android Wear, Google Now, and the Android OS on the Nexus 5. Prior to joining Google, Alex served at Mozilla as the principal designer on Firefox for five years. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Webinar: Augmented Reality in Medicine, Health and Wellness
The fields of medicine, healthcare and wellness have long embraced the use of new technology to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. The introduction of Augmented Reality-assisted systems is going hand in hand with the increase in real time data we are able to capture and analyze about the body. In this Webinar a framework for how Augmented Reality (AR) is used for visualization of medical and health data, and the measurable benefits of having the data in context, are introduced. Examples illustrate the different approaches available today as well as what to expect in the future. We will present some of the results of preliminary studies into AR-assisted medical procedures and offer insights into where the technology introduction is most likely to encounter obstacles as well as support from different stakeholders in the health and wellness ecosystem. Healthcare practitioners, medical technologists and managers of health facilities will be able to apply what they learn in this Webinar to their own processes and address challenges they face when bringing together technical information and the patient which that data concerns. You will learn: • What processes are considered the most suitable for AR-assisted systems? • What metrics are being used to evaluate the impact of AR in medicine, healthcare and wellness? • How is AR introduced into healthcare pilot projects? • What are obstacles to introducing AR in medicine, healthcare and wellness? We bring together a broad range of individuals and organizations from a wide range of technical and geographic points of origin to facilitate standards development and standards related collaboration. With collaborative thought leaders in more than 160 countries, we promote innovation, enable the creation and expansion of international markets and help protect health and public safety. Collectively, our work drives the functionality, capabilities and interoperability of a wide range of products and services that transform the way people live, work and communicate. Augmented REality Sandtable (ARES)
The Augmented REality Sandtable (ARES) proof-of-concept is a traditional sandtable, filled with play sand, augmented with a commerical-off-the-shelf projector, LCD monitor, laptop, and Microsoft Kinect. The Kinect senses user gestures, changes to the sand “terrain,” and potentially, verbal commands as forms of user interaction. ARES projects moving military units, terrain features, and other data onto the sand. Payoff: Improved battlespace visualization. Decreased time to author 3D terrains and scenarios. Increased student engagement / retention levels. Joint / Coalition Wargaming and Mission Planning through networked ARES tables.

Virtual Reality Training for Military and Law Enforcement Immersive Training Simulation Applications
http://www.VTTII.com - VIRTSIM is a motion-capture immersive virtual reality simulation system that allows up to 13 people to train together virtually. The virtual reality system allows trainees to perform law enforcement and military combat exercises and move tactically as they would during a live operation. Any location or tactical scenario can be simulated by the software with incredible realistic details. The 3D AAR then provides playback of all actions and shots from every angle, as well as from each participant's individual perspective for feedback and analysis. There is nothing like this on the market - visit http://www.VTTII.com for more info and details.
