Every Oculus Quest App That Supports Controller-Free Hand Tracking

Oculus Quest now supports native hand tracking using the device’s built-in cameras. Here’s a list of all the software supporting the feature as well as developers with Quest apps on the store who are planning to support the feature after they get their hands on the software development kit.

Initially announced at OC6, hand tracking on Quest was scheduled for a 2020 release but Facebook released the feature early. As of this writing the software development kit (SDK) for hand tracking isn’t available yet and there are no third party apps supporting hand tracking at launch.

Facebook says to expect the first apps from developers to support the feature in 2020 and the hand tracking developer SDK releases the week of December 16. According to Facebook, “Oculus avatars do not support hand tracking, but the team is working on implementing this and they’re targeting to ship support next year.”

We will amend this list over time as more apps and games start to support hand tracking and we hear from more developers who plan to support it. If you’re a Quest developer with an app already available from the Oculus store and think it likely you’ll support this feature, please email [email protected] to get yourself added to this list.

Here are all the apps that support hand tracking on Oculus Quest. As we hear from developers we’ll add a section underneath for planned support.

Note: To use hand tracking, your Quest needs to be updated to V12 and you need to turn on hand tracking in the Experimental Features tab in Settings on your Quest.

Oculus Quest Home and Menus

The Oculus Quest Home environment, and all the associated menus, support hand tracking at launch.

You will be able to select, scroll and navigate through Oculus Home, including the Library and Store, without Oculus Touch controllers.

Oculus Browser

Oculus Browser supports hand tracking on the Quest from launch.

This means you don’t need to hold the Touch controllers while browsing the Internet on your Quest.

Oculus TV

Oculus TV also supports hand tracking at launch, allowing you to pause, play and skip through videos without the need for Touch Controllers.

Stationary Guardian Setup

You will also be able to setup a stationary guardian barrier – and use your hands to set the floor height – using hand tracking. This means you will essentially be able to put on your Quest, set up a guardian and begin browsing the menus without the need for Touch controllers at all.

Planned Hand Tracking Support

Updates to come. Email [email protected] if you’re a Quest developer with an app already available from the Oculus store and think it likely you’ll support this feature.

We will continue to update this article as more third and first party application and games support hand tracking.
