Oculus’ Santa Cruz standalone VR headset is finally making its debut to developers at the 2018 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this week but, for those of you at home, the company has got a few new images of the device to enjoy, too.
These images were labelled as ‘Santa Cruz Dev Kit’ when we got them from Oculus. That said, given that the company has already teased new controllers for the device today, it’s not clear if this will be the exact device that should be landing on developer’s doorsteps later this year. Either way, it’s further proof that Santa Cruz looks like a slick piece of kit even in its prototype phase.
Unlike the Oculus Go, which should launch within the next few weeks, Santa Cruz offers full six degrees of freedom (6DOF) inside-out tracking using a set of cameras mounted to the device. A release this year is unlikely, but hopefully we’ll see a near-final version as 2018 moves on.
