Jimmy Fallon is getting good comedic mileage out of Pictionary, the party game of choice for people with too much dignity to play charades. Last night, for the fourth time in seven months, Fallon played a round of VR Pictionary with his celebrity guests.
Fallon teamed up with Brie Larson of Glass Castle, while Tariq Trotter of The Roots played with Marlon Wayans, of the new NBC comedy Marlon. The two teams took turns drawing clues in Tilt Brush.
Once again, Fallon introduced virtual reality to a larger audience, but the technology naturally took a backseat to the humor. The virtual reality point-of-view shots in the segment didn’t showcase how Tilt Brush can be a transformative and immersive experience. It’s hard to see Pictionary being the killer-app that pushes buyers into a $799 purchase (or $399 if you pick up and Oculus Rift soon).
Fallon has been an important proponent of VR to the layman. In addition to the first three VR Pictionary bits, he previously featured PlayStation VR and the Oculus Rift. Unfortunately, NBC Universal has not preserved these segments on YouTube or the Tonight Show website, but we have embedded the archived VR Pictionary sketches below.
